This is the story of an English son and his mother settling in Hackensack for 15 years. At the time during the Great War, he eventually paid his way back to England where he served in the military for 12 years, including the period of the Boer War.

R. Anderson Todd was at once sent to the front.  The letter in which he sent to the lodge of the "Odd Fellows of Hackensack" was written in part by a fellow concerned servicemen along with R. Anderson Todd.
